Top Transport Value Stocks

The markets lost some ground last week as the bulls took a rest on some weaker China data. The S&P 500 drifted down to close near the bottom of its uptrend channel just below 1400 at 1397. The COMP is still the strongest performer as Apple Inc. consolidates its gains near $600. And the DJIA held its 20 SMA and well above the 13,000 breakout area at 13,084 after testing 13,000 on Friday.

As MR detailed last week, we remain bullish as long as the uptrend channel is maintained. In addition, any pullback that breaks the uptrend channels or the 20 SMAs needs to hold the key market breakout levels to avoid a larger correction. As a reminder, they are 13,000 on the DJIA, 3,000 on the COMP, and 1373 on the S&P 500.As stated in Wednesday’s newsletter, MR believes that our forecast of reaching above 1,430 sometime in April is still possible based on the chart technicals from above and based on historical market statistics for April. We showed statistics in Wednesday’s newsletter that April has been the best month for market performance in the most recent years and over the past 40 years.

Furthermore, most of the time, institutions and funds put money to work near the end of quarters and also at the beginning of a new quarter in a positive market. That should help these markets push higher in the next few weeks.

At this point, it is not clear to us what news would cause more than just a small pullback if one does occur. China’s data was somewhat of a setback for commodities and for the emerging markets but that is probably just temporary. They are still growing well above 7% and many of their underlying stocks are developing strong bases for future moves up. The only wildcard in the near term would be an escalation of the rising Spanish yields which could put some European debt fears back into focus.

Some of MR’s technical indicators point to a minor correction this week but our stance remains bullish based on the expected buying to close the month and to start April.

Using the Power Stocks Table:

(1) Risk: Conservative (Cons); Moderate (Mod); Aggressive (Aggr); Speculative (Spec)

(2) Stop: Typically use a 3 to 4% closing stop below the entry price

(3) Trailing Stops: Use the 10 EMA (Swing) or 20 SMA (Short Term Trader) for protecting gains once above it; SMA = Daily Simple Moving Avg; EMA = Daily Exponential Moving Avg.

Transport Value Stocks:

Many commodity stocks in materials, energy, and agriculture and related stocks in railroads and shipping are still at some very attractive valuations. The statistics so far coming out of the US in 2012 are much better across the board. China’s growth is slowing but it is still above 7.5%.This is the fifth and final list of stocks in our investor series on value stocks in the commodity related sectors. We are finishing with a focus on transport stocks and specifically on railroads and shippers. Many of these stocks have both significant income and capital appreciation upside. This is an excellent investment opportunity to pick up some of these stocks at real bargain prices if you hold them for 12 months or more.

Investor Notes:

Gold and Silver:

Gold and silver are still holding their longer term trendlines and are actually tracing out bullish inverted Head and Shoulders patterns. These are strong patterns for big moves up if they play out and our recent blogs support higher prices later in 2012. It may take some patience in the short term with some choppy price action but scaling in on weakness is still prudent for long term investors in our opinion.

MR published a blog on Gold and Silver Mining Stocks - Time To Buy The Hated Gold Stocks and Silver Stocks

Long Term Treasuries:

Also, we wrote a very important blog in February about how the Long Term Treasury Bond yields could only go up. Look to buy the TBT (Ultrashort Treasury) for bigger gains this year.

Facebook Investing:

MR is looking into ways to take advantage of the Facebook IPO ahead of its big day. We have identified at least one public way to buy some Facebook exposure by buying SVVC (Firsthand Technology Value Fund). They are an investment fund that has purchased 600,000 shares of Facebook’s Class B common stock and also own some stock in YELP. MR purchased some shares several weeks ago near $25 and it has run up quite a bit recently. Therefore, waiting on a pullback would be advisable. It is also a very illiquid stock (low volume) so only use limit orders and wait for a quiet buy period during the day. It might be worth some speculative money as an investment. We will also keep you posted on other Facebook plays as we find them.

Searching for Commodity Value Stocks

This blog will focus on the high retest in the stock markets and also starts a new investor series on value commodity stocks. The stock markets suffered their first big loss of the year last week and it did break the short term trendlines – the 20 SMAs. However, to the bulls’ credit, they fought back hard on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to recover from that big loss. The moving average lesson still is a very good one to keep handy for investors as the IWM pullback followed it in textbook fashion. Furthermore, most stocks and commodities follow the same pattern as well. Knowing and applying its principles has personally made and saved me lots of money. And, the DJIA could still follow that moving average pattern.

It was fairly simple to look back on what caused the recovery bounce in the markets. The dip buyers stepped back in, Apple continued to hold steady (AAPL), a final last second Greek bond agreement was signed, some more positive US data was released, and probably a small short squeeze occurred to overcome the selling pressure.

So the stock markets are back to where they started last week for the most part.except for the DJIA which failed to close back above its 20 SMA on Friday. We added a few select positions back on Thursday and Friday in our portfolios in case a topside breakout occurs above the key levels this week (1,375, 13,000, and 3,000). But we left roughly 20% open stock positions in case of a pullback. The 50 SMAs are still very strong magnets if more heavy selling occurs this week.

Fundamentally speaking, the very low interest rate money (“free money”) available to institutions with a systemic risk that has been significantly improved in Europe seems to keep plenty of buying available. With that backdrop in place and without any Iranian crisis, it continues to be a bullish environment for the rest of March until proven otherwise.

The large divergence shown in last week’s DJ Transports and Russell 2000 Indexes charts remains but their move up with a small move down by the Major US Indexes would close that gap.

Momentum Rider is recommending a 10% to 20% reduction in equities on selling from here because the trendline SELL SIGNAL triggered last week is still in place. The key levels need to be taken out and held above for 2 consecutive days to negate it. (1,375, 13,000, and 3,000)

Using the Power Stocks Table:
(1) Risk: Conservative (Cons); Moderate (Mod); Aggressive (Aggr); Speculative (Spec)
(2) Stop: Typically use a 3 to 4% closing stop below the entry price
(3) Trailing Stops: Use the 10 EMA (Swing) or 20 SMA (Short Term Trader) for protecting gains once above it; SMA = Daily Simple Moving Avg; EMA = Daily Exponential Moving Avg.

Commodity and Commodity Related Value Stocks:

Many commodity stocks in materials, energy, and agriculture and related stocks in railroads and shipping are still at some very attractive valuations. The statistics so far coming out of the US in 2012 are much better across the board. China’s growth is slowing but it is still close to 8%, and the reports out of Europe are only indicating a mild recession. And, because oil and some refined products are going up in price, many of the energy stocks should do better going forward with earnings. So this week starts an investor series on value stocks in these sectors.

Top Japan Stocks

Japan stocks had a very rough 2011. The Japanese stock market has had a rough time for the last 20 years. Today’s value is close to the same price that it was in the middle of 1992. But Momentum Rider believes that Japan stocks could see a bounce from the current depressed levels after a very difficult 2011 for Japan.

Japan Stocks Could Rise 20% or More in the Next 15 Months

Many Japanese companies and their Japan stocks responded very quickly in recovering from the damage and actually have become more efficient as a result. Many old and outdated production facilities were replaced with state-of-the-art facilities to make them stronger than ever. Some top analysts are predicting that leading Japanese companies will see a jump of 60% at the net income level by the first quarter of 2013. The Japan stocks and the Japan stock market are expected to rise from 12 to 15% in the next 15 months.

It is not surprising that the property developers and real estate Japan stocks are some of the best performers after being hit very hard after the disaster. In addition, the automobile makers and electronics Japan stocks have risen sharply as their production capabilities came back on line. Having these larger Japan stocks and companies lead the way are the keys a solid recovery in an export driven economy.

But Japan is still not without its challenges that have plagued the country for the last decade or more. Just like other countries around the world, they are suffering from escalating debt and a certain degree of deflation. Japan actually is the most indebted nation in the industrial world. Their need to launch many large construction projects will be beneficial in the long run but it only added to the debt and made it worse. But, the spending should potentially spur growth in Japan stocks and provide a recovery. The International Monetary Fund is estimating the Japenses economy will grow 1.7% in 2012 and about the same in 2013. While that seems meager, it is compared to a shrinking of almost of 1% in 2011.

The bottom line is that Japan’s economy and Japan stocks will see a bounce from current price levels. Several top Japan stocks have valuations that are attractive when compared to many value metrics. With a market that could see a minimum of 12% growth, MR beleives that the value Japan stocks that we have recommended in the list below could provide gains of 15% or more than 25% in some cases. For true value investors that are looking for good buying opportunties, take a serious look at our top Japan stocks.

Top Japan Stocks With Value

The Japan stock market has been moving up with the rest of the world markets in 2012. It is no secret that Japan stocks have been struggling for decades and 2011 was another disastrous year. The tsunami and nuclear plant fallout was devastating in many ways for the country and Japan stocks.

Their overall market has done very little since the March 2009 bottom and many household Japan stocks have been slaughtered. However, MR believes that it may be time again to focus on some of the better Japan stocks with good valuations that were overly punished in 2011.

Japan is a resilient country and they will slowly climb back up. At this point, the Japan stocks on this second list are considered a bit aggressive but should provide good appreciation in the next 12 to 15 months.

This blog will focus on the very important price levels in the markets and also starts a two part investor series on Japan. The markets have been very strong to start 2012 and every pullback has been small and typically bought. It has been a surprising run despite the overhang of Europe. On the other hand, Europe’s use of large credit facilities for their banks has changed the specter of a systemic collapse significantly. That is the primary reason that the markets have staged such an impressive rally since the 4Q of last year.

Many institutions have been buying based on a slow and steady improvement in the United States’ metrics, attractive valuations, the idea that Europe will be backstopped, and the fact that China appears to be headed for a soft landing. The short term technical indicators are still showing a very extended market that needs a pullback. But the buyers are keeping the markets grinding higher and the uptrend intact for now. China needs to continue its move up to keep the other world markets, especially the commodities market, pushing higher. It looks poised for another leg up in the next few months which is bullish.Gold and silver have also staged a good rally although this past week saw Bernanke’s testimony remove some hope of a QE3. That caused some significant selling in the precious metals after a strong move up in 2012. However, we expect the weakness in gold and silver to be short lived. There are significant changes coming in the commodities exchanges in China and Hong Kong that could push both metals up much higher in 2012.

The US GDP growth recently surprised to the upside, manufacturing numbers have been trending higher, and most US metrics for a slowly improving economy have been positive. Earnings reports for the quarter were generally solid and the unemployment numbers have also been slightly better. As Europe has been steadying, the confidence in the equity markets is definitely going up. In fact, Germany had a good GDP report last week and they are the biggest driver in Europe. That is just another positive outcome from the last quarter and last few months.

And, as MR continues to point out, the world equity markets have been also moving up because of China. The new world growth engine is not the US but China. And as China goes, the rest of the equity markets will move accordingly. For now, China looks to be holding firm on its strong growth in the 8% area and inflation is still in check. That is good for both consumption and for commodities in general. After a rough 2011, a bounce back in China will help support a better 2012 for many companies and for the world markets.

Strong Battle At Old Highs

The markets have come a long way from the end of November and in the last 100 days. The technicals are still extended and a 3 to 5% pullback would be healthy. The big question is whether a breakout occurs above the key tops first or a pullback happens in the first part of March. The key market levels again are: DJIA – 13,000, S&P 500 – 1371, and COMP – 3,000. These are critical battleground price levels for the short sellers and whoever wins this battle will determine the next bigger move for the markets.

Our current projection is that a pullback probably happens in the first half of March but then the markets push higher to 1400 or more on the S&P 500 later in the month and into April. Obviously, a breakout from those key levels in early March could take the S&P 500 to 1400 much earlier. But, any push to 1400 to 1415 will probably be the high through the summer. Keep an eye on Apple’s stock because when it tops, it will take the rest of the market down with it. And that top is probably $550 to $560 and very soon.

The fundamental valuation for most US stocks is still attractive based on a PE of 15 benchmark. Any pullback from the current levels would likely be bought after a minor correction based on the past two months’ price action.

Using the Power Stocks Table:
(1) Risk: Conservative (Cons); Moderate (Mod); Aggressive (Aggr); Speculative (Spec)
(2) Stop: Typically use a 3 to 4% closing stop below the entry price
(3) Trailing Stops: Use the 10 EMA (Swing) or 20 SMA (Short Term Trader) for protecting gains once above it; SMA = Daily Simple Moving Avg; EMA = Daily Exponential Moving Avg.

At this point, the Japan stocks on our first list are still aggressive but are worth serious consideration for a long term investor. MR likes PHG (Koninklijke Phillips Elect), MTU (Mitsubishi Financial Group), HIT (Hitachi Ltd), and NTT (Nippon Telegraph) at these price levels as our top Japan stocks with attractive value for a solid comeback.

Best China Stocks – Aggressive Growth Stocks

This blog article will complete our investor series on the best China stocks. It is the third of a 3 part series that will take a more detailed look at investing in China with a variety of speculative stocks to choose from. Our focus as usual will be on only the very best China stocks that have aggressive growth prospects. This is actually a very good opportunity to pick up some speculative China stocks at some good valuations.

China is the key growth engine now for the global marketplace. This makes it a good country to look for good China stocks and the very best China stocks. This growth has fueled many of the best China stocks to hit new highs and to gain over one hundred percent. It was just in the last few years, due to the deep recession, that China has started to moderate its growth down from 9% or higher.

The Best China Stocks – Middle Class Explosion

The growing population and middle class explosion will also continue to put a huge strain on the Chinese food production. This will place a heavy burden on design fertilizer companies and agriculture related businesses. This sector is the first to look for high growth and the best China stocks. The middle class is naturally eating out more, eating higher end foods with chicken and steak, and they are generally demanding a larger and more diverse food
menu. So restaurants and food supply chains and related companies are another area to look for finding the best China stocks.

China is not currently equipped to handle this increased food demand domestically. The middle class is also expecting more infrastructure and building growth for their cities and to a lesser degree their suburbs. But the suburb growth outside the city should also start to happen like it did in the US several decades ago. Real estate, builders, construction, and commodity related sectors and companies will also produce some of the best China stocks.

Therefore, the demand for the infrastructure and building products like aluminum, steel, copper, cement, wood, and the construction and machinery related products is growing exponentially the best China stocks leveraging this growth will benefit. China’s demand for these products is insatiable and they have been stockpiling commodities for years now because of it. They realize the natural resource prices will only get higher and they have stepped up their own commodity and natural resource exploration and production significantly. We have highlighted some of the best China stocks in the natural resource area already in our first two blogs.

China can only produce less than half of their energy and resource needs now and that percentage will fall even more in the future. Just recently, it was reported that China is now the largest consumer of ENERGY RESOURCES in the world. This means that the largest and best China stocks that are commodity and energy producing and the best commodity transport companies (like shippers and railroads) will benefit significantly in the coming decade.

The demand for technology and technology services is also exploding from this middle class growth. The large increase in computer use, internet related services like online gaming, social networking, and of course mobile communications are providing a large opportunity and large profits for the best China stocks and for many different companies. The best China stocks and companies are the hottest area for both trading and investing in Momentum Rider subscription services. They are poised for a big year in 2012.

Investors should realize that investing even in the best China stocks can be a risky proposition. The China market will include large market swings up and down, and probably more weak and choppy periods going forward in the next few years. However, the best China stocks that Momentum Rider highlights below could provide huge gains in a number of stocks.

The key for profiting with the best China stocks as long term investments is to scale into these stocks over time. Partial purchases should be made on general Chinese market weakness over time and you need to be willing to take some profit on any fast runs up in the Chinese stock market. Remember, this country is full of the largest speculation population in the world and those buyers are not going to sit back for too long before driving their stock market up much higher in the next 5 to 10 years. Take a chance on some of these high flying best China stocks because it stands good chance of big profits in the end.

This concludes this final blog detailing more growth drivers for why the best China stocks will be good investments. The best China stocks detailed in the list below are the most speculative in the series. Use proper entries and timing and the profit and results from these speculative best Chinas stocks could be amazing.

Research each company by yourself, scale in gradually, and don’t forget that even the best China stocks to buy will have volatility. These fifteen best China stocks could be very profitable and rewarding with the right price entries on market and stock pullbacks.

The King of Technology – Apple Inc. (AAPL)

This week’s investor highlight blog is on Apple Inc. Momentum Rider is dubbing Apple Inc. the “King of Tech”. It has been one of the most successful resurrections of a broken stock and company in history. Steve Jobs came back to turn his former company around in a transformation that was miraculous and extremely profitable for Apple Inc. to say the least.

Steve Jobs helped Apple Inc. set earnings’ records almost every quarter in the past few years. And even under Tim Cook as the new CEO, Apple Inc. has continued to thrive. Cook has been able to avoid major supply chain issues and has taken the stock from its recent low of $370 in November of 2011 to its current price of $493. And, it will certainly bust $500 this coming week.

Apple Inc.’s monster first quarter earnings report was the most profitable quarter ever reported by a technology company and the second most profitable quarter ever reported by a U.S. firm. The market capitalization is now over $440 billion and Apple Inc. is the most valuable company in the world. Apple Inc. has over $100 billion in cash right now.

At the end of 2011, Apple Inc. revealed plans to spend over $8 billion in capital spending just in 2012. Tim Cook is betting that fiscal 2012 sales will grow by $52 billion or close to 48%. That is an amazing growth rate for such a large and established company like Apple Inc.

Apple Inc. and Their Hot Devices and Products

Apple Inc.’s mobile devices of the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch are still its growth engines. Their current dominance has been amazing to watch as it has unfolded over the past few years. Their superior designs and cutting edge technology have kept them ahead of everybody. It doesn’t mean that competitors won’t try to take Apple Inc. down, because they will. There will be new rival tablets and mobile phones with powerful core quad processors from Nvidia Corp and others that will hit the market in the next few months. And later in the year new chips will be powered by a newer version of Microsoft’s Windows software that will provide a competitive obstacle to Apple Inc.

But Apple Inc. is still up to the challenge as they try to stay ahead with new innovations and improved functionality with every new release. And their speed to new releases is much better than it used to be in the old Apple computer days. That will be important to remain the dominant player in this very difficult and fast growing wireless mobile and multimedia consumer arena. Apple Inc. is looking forward to big improvements in their display technology this year and it is spending lots of money to get there.

In fact, Apple Inc. will probably leverage that same technology to enter into the building of television sets in 2012. Steve Jobs was reportedly finalizing a much simpler user interface for televisions that may give them an edge into this very large $100 billion television industry. There were reports that the new TVs will work with Siri-style voice commands. Just as recently as today, there is speculation that the new prototype Apple Inc. TV is already in the hands of TV makers’ hands. Discussions are going on with Rogers Communications and Bell Canada Enterprises to name just a few and it could be ready as early as 2013.

There is no question that Apple Inc.’s domination of the consumer interface for multimedia content and its move into controlling the actual content will continue to make Apple, Inc. the “King of Tech” for many years to come. The dominance it has created in streaming digital music (iTunes) could potentially happen with streaming video content as well with the right content business relationships. The new “cloud based TV service” could be launched in 2012 according to inside sources.

Reasons for a Long Reign for Apple Inc. – The King of Tech

Apple Inc. (AAPL) is truly the “King of Tech” with a reign that could last a decade or more. The following are strong reasons that Momentum Rider believes it is NOT TOO LATE FOR INVESTORS to buy Apple Inc. stock.

1) The recent earnings report from Apple Inc. was a breakaway gap that should have much higher to move up from a technical standpoint.

2) The valuation of Apple Inc. stock based on future earnings’ growth is still very reasonable with a PE of less than 10. That is very cheap compared to the typical PE of 15 for the market average, much less a high growth company.

3) Apple Inc. will probably use the $100 billion in cash to buy back stock and to finally start issuing a dividend in 2012. The issuing of a dividend will be a HUGE boost to the stock’s price as it increases the number of major institutions and fund types that can own the stock. More fund buying means higher prices.

4) Apple Inc. will probably do a split this year which will not only open the stock up to more investors, but most growth stocks see accelerated appreciation with splits. Getting in before a split announcement is advisable as the announcement itself generates a price pop.

5) Apple Inc. and their retail stores are the most lucrative stores per square foot in the world and they continue to open up more of their stores worldwide. Their recent entrance into China is a major step in what should provide explosive growth. The more stores that go up, the more profitable they will be as the mobile industry is still in the early stages of worldwide usage and innovation. This is especially true in the emerging market countries where they will get a critical early lead on competitors.

6) Apple Inc. and their entrance into the television and video content world could be another big game changer for Apple. While the television business itself is a low margin market, it facilitates the very lucrative video content business and it opens up their customer base even more. It will increase the whole multimedia consumer business to Apple Inc. with their full package offering and superior brand recognition. It is staggering to think of the possibilities for new revenue with the video content business. They could enter into the advertising business as well.

7) The mobile phone and streaming multimedia video businesses are still in their infancy. Apple Inc. is the leader in the mobile phone and tablet business and they will probably become the leader in the specialty TV and video content business. If Apple Inc. plays their cards right in 2012 and 2013, they will continue to be the “King of Tech”, even without Steve Jobs at the helm.

Our recommendation is to buy Apple Inc. stock whenever it has a pullback in 2012. Their best years are still ahead of them and they have a good valuation even at $500. We say long live the “King of Tech” – Apple Inc.

The good stocks to buy in the gold sector right now will provide excellent profit opportunities in the future. Gold prices will continue to climb in the future. Because of this, an investor should be looking right now for the good stocks to buy. Momentum Rider (MR) expects gold to see more than a double or to exceed $3,000/oz in the next 5 to 10 years. This article provides 5 key reasons that gold and the good stocks to buy in the gold mining sector will provide very solid returns in the next few years and for at least the next decade.

Reason #1: Inflation will become a huge issue in the next few years and beyond.

This will put significant upside pressure gold as it did in the late 1970?s and 1980?s. This reason alone supports a minimum move of gold to over $3,000 once inflation starts kicking in.

Reason #2: Individual investors and numerous countries are accumulating and stockpiling gold and silver.

Gold is a safe haven in times of wars and political and economic uncertainty. This is the world we live in. The recent times of economic uncertainty in 2008 till now have proven that very point as gold and silver have clearly outperformed other asset classes. Gold has been outperforming for the last 10 years. And, history has shown this kind of result many times. Because of the economic uncertainty and even some creeping doubts on the US dollar as a reserve currency, countries have recently been increasing their gold reserves and stockpiles by large amounts (China, India, and Russia to name just a few). For example, in October 2009, India purchased 200 tons of IMF gold. This was the single largest purchase of gold by a central bank in the past 30 years. This insatiable investor appetite will dramatically benefit the good stocks to buy in both gold and silver.

And the real wild card could be individual investors in China. In the past, the Chinese government forbade ownership of all precious metals. But now, the ban has been lifted. In fact, China just introduced silver and gold bars for investment. The state-run China Central Television (CCTV) is running a campaign encouraging the population to invest in gold and silver. That means there are over a billion potential new silver and gold investors ready to stockpile their own reserves. This is especially significant when you consider the average savings rate in China is 30 to 40%. This increased demand could significantly affect the supply and drive up the good stocks to buy in precious metals.

Reason #3: The fast growth of the emerging market middle classes and their huge demand for commodities to support infrastructure growth will put enormous upwards pressure on commodity prices across the board, including gold. If you know the good stocks to buy that are mining gold, you should do very well as an investor.

MR has previously written about the growing middle classes in the emerging market countries like China and India. The strong growth and large population numbers are putting huge demand pressure on all commodities for transport, jewelry, infrastructure for businesses and residences, agriculture commodity related products, etc. This increasing and high demand worldwide for commodities in general will push gold and silver prices up for the ride.

Reason #4: Decades of very low gold prices stalled and postponed production and exploration that ultimately has significantly lowered its supply sources.

Gold production peaked in 2001 and has been falling since then. Lower supply will be swamped by increasing demand for gold going forward. New gold locations are limited and production is still not what it used to be. Furthermore, the relative cost of finding new precious metals through exploration is extremely high in today?s economy.

Reason #5: The emergence of the gold ETF, GLD in particular, has changed the supply curve of gold in the world.

GLD is backed by real gold bullion that must be purchased. It is a proxy for real gold. Therefore, momentum in the GLD ETF as an investment actually lowers supply which will continue to put upward pressure on the price. This will benefit the good stocks to buy in gold mining. This upward price movement will increase the momentum to the upside which will reduce supply again. It is setup for a parabolic move at some point and silver will be in the same position to benefit.

The final question is how to best invest in gold and what are the good stocks buy in gold mining. Here is a list for the longer term with a bias towards the larger companies for value, safety, and stability.

Good Stocks to Buy in Gold Sector:

1) NEM (Newmont Mining Corp)
2) GOLD (Randgold Resources Ltd)
3) ABX (Barrick Gold Corp)
4) FCX (Freeport McMoran)
5) BVN (Companhia De Minas Buena)
6) GG (Goldcorp Inc)

As an investor, you should take advantage of the recent pullback in both gold and the gold stocks. A pullback like this in a longer term uptrend is just the opportunity that investors must jump on. Investing in the top gold miners will reward you handsomely in the long run so start buying now and on anymore weakness. The pullbacks don’t happen very often.

There are many investors around the world that want to know how to find the good stocks to buy now in these difficult economic times. This is especially true with the recent market sell-off in the summer of 2011 with a potential European debt crisis. It looks like there is a small chance of another worldwide financial crisis if Greece and Italy don’t get backstopped. However, this time is different than 2008 for a lot of reasons, and the US banks are certainly much better capitalized now. I do not predict another recession or financial collapse is around the corner, and I believe the recent market weakness is a very good time to add top dividend stocks to your retirement account.

Most investors don’t know how powerful investing in top dividend stocks that pay high yields year after year can be. For example, top dividend stocks produced an average annual return of over 10% from 1970 through 2005. That is six percent more than non-paying stocks returned in that same period. How important is another six percent annualized over 25 years? Instead of ending up with $200,000 from an initial $50,000 investment, you would have created enough to be a millionaire. Furthermore, investing in some of the top dividend stocks I am suggesting here could provide both strong dividends and double digit growth over the next five or more years. That could produce a return of over 20% annualized. This is definitely a list of good stocks to buy now.

In my opinion, especially with today’s market uncertainty and during a slow recovery cycle, investors need to own quality stocks that consistently pay cash dividends. It is simply a sound investing strategy during good and uncertain times. Everyone seems to have forgotten about these top dividend stocks in the past decade, but dividends are the main way you make money in stocks over the long term.

If you’re going to get wealthy in stocks, one way is to get lots of dividends, and then to reinvest those dividends. Referring to a study of the period from 1872 to 2000 in his book, Behavioural Investing, analyst James Montier showed that dividend yields provided over 50% of the total return on equities. There is no question that the good stocks to buy for long term wealth creation are high quality dividend ones.

I recommend using several important fundamental criteria when assessing strong dividend stocks. The first one is whether the company has a Price to Earnings Ratio (PE) < 14. The historic market average is about 15 and the modern market PE is about 17. So to really have some price upside, the PE ratio should have room to get back up to the historic or modern ratio average. The second critical one is to show steady growth over time with strong earnings year over year. The third is considered a big plus, and it is for the company to have a history of consistently raising the dividend every year. A few other criteria that may be useful are looking for companies with a Price-to-Book Ratio < 2.0 (historical average is 1.94) and a Price-Sales Ratio < 1.0 (historical average is 0.86).

For this article, I focused my efforts on finding a diversified group of 10 top dividend stocks suitable for anyone’s retirement portfolio. These companies are fundamentally sound and they will deliver consistent income and steady growth for years to come.

10 Top Dividend Stocks to Buy Now with Value, Steady Growth, and Consistent Dividends:

1) BBL – BHP Billiton (PE < 11)

2) BMS – Bemis Co Inc (PE < 12)

3) COP – Conoco Phillips (PE < 8.)

4) DD – E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. (PE < 10)

5) EMR – Emerson Electric Co (PE < 12)

6) MT – Arcelor Mittal (PE < 6)

7) NSC – Norfolk Southern Corp (PE < 11)

8.) PEG – Public Service Ent Group (PE < 13)

9) UL – Unilever (PE < 13)

10) UTX – United Technologies Corp (PE < 12)

Every company on this list has solid fundamentals and most carry a high dividend yield of 3% or more. Furthermore, their projected value in 1 year has a minimum of 20% upside. Study these companies and their balance sheets and learn how to find these type of investments on your own.

The bottom line is that an investor should do very well by investing in top dividend stocks both now and in the future.

Many investors are searching for the holy grail in income producing stocks and funds. Specifically, they are looking for top dividend stocks and high dividend ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds). Unfortunately, it is not always about just scanning for top dividend stocks with high yields or high dividend ETFs. This is because many of those high-yielders can be very risky and will ultimately lose more in appreciation then you make in income. I have developed some very important scanning criteria that help minimize the appreciation risk while also providing the huge upside while getting high-yield dividends.

The biggest criteria by far is the trend of the market. It is critical, as with all investments, to be on the right side of the market in the timeframe that you are investing or trading. Therefore, when I scan for these special top dividend stocks or high dividend ETFs, I am looking for good values during market pullbacks or relative strength stocks in times of uptrends. It is essential to look for momentum and relative strength in uptrends and as much valuation cushion underneath you during downtrends.

In addition, just as I do with my general stock scans, it is important to identify hot sectors or macro-trends that will favor growth for these high dividend ETFs or top dividend stocks. No matter what, while the income is desirable, it is ultimately the appreciation that provides the biggest payoff if you can buy the right stocks or funds at the right time. For example, many high-yield dividend stocks (>7% yield) created capital appreciation over 50% and some over 100% since the March 2009 recovery bounce.

Learning how to do market timing, read charts, and perform rudimentary fundamental analysis is not something everyone is interested in. However, if you are willing to do learn the basics and to make sure the market is moving up when you invest, and that the market and stocks are fairly valued, then you are well on your way to see huge gains in your investing account.

In this article, I am going to make it easy for you. The current S&P 500 market has the most conservative forward earnings projections of at least $98 for early 2012. That means that with a fair value market PE of 15, the upside market target could go as high as 1470. Furthermore, many markets bottom in September and end the year with a strong three-month rally after a bad August. That is what history has shown us 9 out of 10 times that the market had losing August returns in the last 30 years.

Finally, now that you know the chances are on your side for an end-of-year rally and that the market is under-valued, I wanted to look for undervalued stocks and funds with good upside potential. The following 10 investments met my proprietary scanning criteria. In fact, TNH was one of my top recommendations for 2011 and beyond with a huge gain already through August, 2011. It has been climbing even with the market falling. That is the sign of a very strong investment idea.

The 10 Top Dividend Stocks and High Dividend ETFs for Growing Your Retirement:

1) BPT – BP Prudhoe Bay Royalty Trust (PE < 12; 9.6% yield)

2) ETP – Energy Transfer Partners (PE < 14; 8.2% yield)

3) FMO – Fiduciary-Claymore MLP Oppty (7.0% yield)

4) HYG – iShares iBoxx High Yield Corp Bond (7.8% yield)

5) JNK – SPDR Barclays Capital High Yield Bond (8.1% yield)

6) JQC – Nuveen Multi-Strategy Income & Growth (9.3% yield)

7) NLY – Annaly Capital Management Inc (PE < 6; 14.4% yield)

PGF – Powershares Financial Preferred (7.3% yield)

9) PHK – PIMCO High Income Fund (11.6% yield)

10) TNH – Terra Nitrogen Co LP (PE < 10; 8.4% yield)

This list is only a small portion of the stocks and funds I identified with upside potential but it certainly represents a solid and diversified list of income instruments with both growth potential and some safety. Remember, all high dividend ETFs and high-yield dividend stocks are not created equal and some are even very risky. This list would serve anyone well that is interested in a high-yield bonanza for years to come.

It is time in the stock market to take a look at some really attractive value investing gems. The materials, energy, base metals, and natural resources are providing some excellent stock and ETF value investing opportunities right now. MR is a huge proponent of owning these sectors both in the short term and long term. In this article, I will highlight some of the top stocks to buy for value investing.

Now there is still risk in the market with the European financial crisis. But the stocks and ETFs I will be recommending here are ones that the value is simply to good to ignore. It doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy a full position. In fact, I am recommending against that. However, buying a partial position of maybe 40% is worthwhile. If the market does get another selloff, then you can add more because these stocks and ETFs will recover over time.

Value Investing is best done in exactly these kind of times. You want to see fear and uncertainty in a market along with very good valuations in both the markets and individual stocks or ETFs that you are considering. Now is that time. My focus for this article is on Energy, Metals, and Materials and here are my top stocks to buy now picks:

Value Investing Stocks That Can Be Scaled into NOW:

As you can see from the list above, there are some great values today based on Price-to-Earnings (PE), Price-to-Book (P/B), Price-to-Sales (P/S), and Price-to-Cashflow (P/CF). Some of these stocks are definitely worth an investment with a longer term horizon and patience on our eventual slow recovery. I am not in the camp of a double-dip recession so these buys should do well in the next 12 to 18 months.

In fact, it is my expectation that a European solution to their financial crisis could start a very strong bull rally. But, that solution may still take months and there may be more pain first. Go slow with these picks and do your own research. However, value investing is all about these type of situations and finding the top stocks to buy is our specialty.

The bottom line is that an investor should do very well by investing in these excellent value investing stocks both now and in the future. Keep looking for more of our posts on some good stocks to buy now in Brazil, China, and in other countries.
